Diggers Beach

Surfer's beach below the headland north of town

Diggers is the local surfer's choice — a curve of sand below the headland just north of the Big Banana, reached by a winding path down from the small clifftop car park. The wave is a reef-break right-hander that works on a clean east-to-northeast swell, with the bay providing some shelter from the prevailing southerly.

Dolphins are common in the bay year-round and humpbacks pass close in the winter migration. Lifeguards are not present here, so the swimming should be left to confident surf swimmers; the beach is also one of the few in the area where clothing is optional at the northern end.
