Morpeth is the prettiest part of greater Maitland, a small Hunter River village with old shopfronts, churches, cafes, and a slower pace than the main city centre. It grew through river trade, and the streets still make more sense when you remember goods once moved by water.
It is at its best from Thursday to Sunday, when more shops and cafes are open. Come for a wander rather than a checklist.
