The artesian baths are Moree's signature experience. Hot mineral water rises from the Great Artesian Basin, and the complex now mixes thermal pools with ordinary swimming facilities. It is relaxing, but it is also one of the town's most important historical sites.

A story
In 1965, the Moree Baths became a flashpoint of the Australian Freedom Ride. Student activists led by Charles Perkins challenged the exclusion of Aboriginal people from the pool, and the confrontation helped bring rural segregation into national view.
