Hanging Rock Lookout is the scenic pay-off for the climb out of Nundle. From the lookout, the village and Peel River valley spread below, with the surrounding hills giving a clear sense of why the old goldfield felt remote.
The road up is part of the trip, especially if you are thinking about the miners who worked this country in the 1850s. Bring a jacket outside summer; the exposed ridge can feel much cooler than the village.
