Katherine Museum gives the town some context beyond the highway. Exhibits cover the Overland Telegraph, early settlement, Chinese Territorians, aviation, floods, and the growth of modern Katherine.
It is a useful stop before or after Nitmiluk, especially if you want to understand why this small town became such an important service centre.
