Nitmiluk Gorge is Katherine's headline sight and one of the great Top End landscapes. The Katherine River cuts through a chain of sandstone gorges, with high orange walls, quiet pools, rapids in the dry season, and Jawoyn stories tied to the country.
You can see it gently on a cruise or more directly by canoe and walking track. In the dry season, longer hikes and paddles open up parts of the gorge that day visitors never reach.
