Jack Howe Statue

Main-street statue honouring Australia's famous blade-shearing record holder.

Jack Howe's statue stands on Shamrock Street and points back to the kind of work that made Blackall. In 1892, at Alice Downs Station near town, Howe sheared 321 sheep in seven hours and 40 minutes with blade shears, a record that became part of Australian pastoral legend.

The statue itself is brief, but it belongs with the woolscour. Together they turn Blackall's sheep story from a slogan into something you can picture.
