Kings Beach

Kings Beach is the most popular of Caloundra's beaches — a broad sweep of sand with reliable surf, a rock pool for children and non-swimmers, and the Kings Beach Bathing Pavilion, a heritage-listed art deco building that houses showers, changing rooms, and a cafe.

The surf here is consistent enough for learners but variable enough to interest more experienced surfers. A patrolled swimming area is marked throughout the year. The boardwalk that runs from Kings Beach north to Caloundra Head is one of the best short coastal walks on the Sunshine Coast.

A story
The Kings Beach Bathing Pavilion, built in 1939, is one of the few remaining examples of interwar bathing pavilion architecture on the Queensland coast. Its art deco form — cream-rendered walls, curved awnings, and ocean views — was built to serve the weekend crowds who came by ferry from Brisbane. The ferry service stopped in the 1950s as car ownership spread, but the pavilion survives as a heritage-listed building and still serves as the social heart of the beach.
