Venus Gold Battery is the strongest single sight in Charters Towers. Built in 1872, it processed quartz from the goldfield for more than a century, and much of the crushing and treatment plant survives.
Take the guided tour if it is running. The stampers, vats, office, and rough industrial buildings explain the town better than any plaque on the main street.
