Eight kilometres south of town, Chinchilla Weir is the district's freshwater playground. Locals come for picnics, fishing, canoeing, swimming, water-skiing when conditions allow, and sunset over the Condamine River.
It is also a good birdwatching stop, with waterbirds and open-country species around the river edge. Water levels change, so check locally before counting on boating or swimming.
