Sandgate Town Hall

Sandgate Town Hall is a heritage-listed Federation Free Classical building at 5 Brighton Road, one of the best-preserved examples of late Victorian civic architecture in the Brisbane region. The building served as the seat of the Sandgate Town Council until 1925 and has been in continuous community use since. The clock tower is visible from the foreshore and from the train station, giving the suburb a distinctive civic identity.

The hall is used today for community events, markets, and performances. The surrounding precinct — the post office nearby is also heritage-listed — preserves the character of Sandgate as it was when it was a fashionable seaside resort for Brisbane families.

A story
Sandgate was an independent town with its own council until 1925, when it was absorbed into Brisbane City Council. The Town Hall, built in 1903, is a reminder of that independent civic identity — an elaborate Federation Free Classical building with a clock tower that served as the administrative heart of a seaside resort community that considered itself distinct from the larger city.
