Waltzing Matilda Centre

The Waltzing Matilda Centre is Winton's main in-town museum, built around Banjo Paterson's song and the outback world that produced it. It is partly a museum of the song, partly a local history centre, and partly a portrait of swags, stations, strikes, and hard travel.

The subject could easily have become kitsch, but the best parts treat "Waltzing Matilda" as a doorway into real bush history rather than just a national singalong. It is the right first stop before driving out to the dinosaur sites.
