Byfield, north of Yeppoon, is the green counterweight to the beaches: rainforest, creeks, sand tracks, and national park country behind the coast. It is close enough for a half-day detour but feels noticeably wilder than the foreshore.
The easiest visit is a drive and short walk in the rainforest, with time for a creek stop if conditions suit. More ambitious trips head deeper into Byfield National Park, where road access can require care after rain.
