The Marree Man is a huge modern geoglyph cut into the desert west of town, depicting a human figure more than three kilometres long. It appeared in 1998, and its creator has never been publicly confirmed, which is part of the fascination and part of the discomfort.
You will not appreciate it from the ground. Scenic flights from the Marree area are the practical way to see it, often combined with Lake Eyre or wider outback flights. Some visitors see it as an odd modern landmark; others see it as environmental vandalism. Either way, it is one of the strangest sights tied to Marree.
