Victor Harbor's beaches are sheltered by Encounter Bay, making them calmer than the open-ocean surf breaks further along the coast. The main beach stretches along the foreshore near the causeway to Granite Island. For surf, head to nearby Port Elliot where Horseshoe Bay and Boomer Beach offer reliable waves. Waitpinga Beach, south of town, is a wild and beautiful stretch of coast popular with experienced surfers — but the rip currents are strong, so take care.
