Australian Farmer

Monumental pink-granite sculpture celebrating farming life on the Eyre Peninsula.

The Australian Farmer is Wudinna's most visible landmark, standing beside the Eyre Highway in polished local granite. It is big, earnest, and very country-town Australian, but it works because the subject belongs here.

Stop for a few minutes rather than just driving past. The details in the carving point to wheat, sheep, machinery, and family labour, all of which explain the landscape you have been crossing.

A story
The sculpture was carved from local granite by Marijan Bekic after years of community fundraising. Its scale suits the country around it: farming here has always meant working with distance, dry seasons, and stubborn stone.
