Wudinna is a small service town on the Eyre Highway, but the country around it is not ordinary. This is South Australia's granite country, where bare pink-grey domes rise from wheat fields and mallee scrub, making natural viewpoints, picnic stops, and short walks that break up the long drive across the Eyre Peninsula.
The town itself is practical: fuel, food, visitor information, and the big Australian Farmer sculpture at the roadside. The better reason to stay a little longer is to loop out to Mount Wudinna, Pildappa Rock, and the smaller granite reserves near Minnipa.
Wudinna will not compete with the coast, but it is a worthwhile inland pause. If you have been driving for hours through wheat and saltbush, climbing a warm granite dome at sunset is a much better use of time than another roadhouse coffee.
