Governor Island Marine Reserve

No-take marine reserve off Bicheno, prized for kelp forests, sponges, and temperate-water diving.

Governor Island Marine Reserve protects the waters just off Bicheno, including small granite islands and reef habitat. It is best known to divers for kelp, sponges, fish life, and cold-water visibility that can be excellent in settled weather.

This is not a casual beach snorkel for everyone; conditions and water temperature matter. Go with a local operator unless you already know Tasmanian temperate diving well.
