Ballarat Wildlife Park

16-hectare native-animal park east of the city — good for kangaroos, koalas, wombats

Address 250 Fussell Street, Ballarat East

A privately run wildlife park on a 16-hectare bushland site about ten minutes east of the city centre. The mix is conventional Australian: free-range kangaroos and emus in the front paddocks, koalas (well displayed, viewable up close), wombats (Patrick was a long-resident celebrity until his death in 2017), saltwater crocodiles, reptiles, dingoes, and a colony of Tasmanian devils.

Keeper talks happen on a half-hourly rotation through the day — the kangaroo feeding session is particularly good. Allow three to four hours. A useful contrast to the gold-rush stuff and one of the better wildlife parks in regional Victoria.
