St Mary of the Angels Basilica

Gothic Revival basilica with a 60-metre spire dominating the city skyline

Address 136 Yarra St, Geelong VIC 3220

A tall Gothic Revival basilica completed in stages between 1872 and 1937, dedicated to St Mary of the Angels and granted basilica status by the Vatican in 1956. The single 60-metre tower at the western end is one of the most prominent landmarks of central Geelong.

The interior is rib-vaulted with French stained-glass windows from the early 20th century and an unusual carved-cedar reredos. Quietly open during the day for visitors. A few minutes' walk south from the centre of town.
