Mitchell River Silt Jetties

Long natural silt banks carrying the Mitchell River deep into Lake King

At Eagle Point, just west of Paynesville, the Mitchell River enters Lake King in an unusual way: between long, narrow banks of silt that push far out into the lake. The shape was built by sediment dropped where the river slows, and it gives the place a strange, almost engineered look despite being natural.

You can view the jetties from Eagle Point Bluff, then continue along Point Dawson Road to get closer to the southern bank. It is a good short detour by car or bike, especially in clear weather when the lake, reeds, and river channels are easy to read from above.
