Portland will keep the dedicated visitor busy for at least a day. Victoria's oldest town has a rich maritime heritage, over 200 well-maintained heritage buildings, and several small museums covering the whaling and early settlement era. You can also take a two-hour tour of the aluminium smelter on weekdays. The harbour is great for recreational fishing, with most areas accessible including the Lee Breakwater wharf stretching a kilometre into open water.
