Port of Sale

Canal-side precinct where Sale's old waterway link now anchors cafes, cruises, and culture.

The Port of Sale is the best reminder that Sale once looked toward the waterways as much as the highway. The canal opened in the 1890s to connect the town with the Gippsland Lakes and the open sea.

Today the port is a small civic precinct with the gallery, library, cafes, lawns, and heritage cruises when they are operating. The cruise aboard the wooden Rubeena is the most direct way to understand the canal and the old route to the Swing Bridge.
