Old Tallangatta Lookout is the most direct stop for the town's unusual history. The original settlement lay in the valley below before the Hume Dam works pushed the community to a new site in the 1950s.
The lookout is on the Murray Valley Highway, about 10 minutes from the current town. It has a picnic area and works well as the turnaround point for the short rail-trail ride from Tallangatta.
