Yackandandah is a year-round destination, but the character of a visit changes considerably with the season. Spring (September to November) brings wildflowers in the surrounding bush and the creek trail is at its most pleasant. The town's festival calendar peaks in February with the Yackandandah Folk Festival — a three-day event that has run since 1975 and brings in folk, roots, and world music acts to a town that transforms for the weekend.
Summer is warm but not extreme at this altitude in the foothills of the Alps — usually in the mid-20s — and the swimming holes on Yackandandah Creek are a genuine attraction. Autumn colour in the old gardens and along the creek is notable in April and May. Winter is cold and sometimes frosty but the town is cosy, the bakery is excellent on a grey morning, and the antique shops are all the more appealing in bad weather.
