Manta Ray Snorkel

Coral Bay has one of the few resident manta ray populations in Western Australia. Reef mantas are present year-round in the waters around Coral Bay — operators run half-day boat trips that use spotter techniques to find them and put snorkellers in the water for close passes. Mantas here are reef mantas (Mobula alfredi), with wingspans typically of three to four metres; encounters are usually with feeding animals cruising slowly along the seabed.

Unlike the whale shark and humpback tours, the manta trips run all year and tend to have higher success rates because the animals are local. They are also significantly cheaper, making this the most accessible of the marine wildlife experiences from Coral Bay. Trips usually combine the manta encounter with general reef snorkelling.
