Hoover House sits above Gwalia with a calmer, grander view than the miners' cottages below. It was the mine manager's residence, and one of its early managers was Herbert Hoover before he became president of the United States.
The house has been restored, and its wide verandas make the class divide of the old mine settlement very plain. It is worth seeing as part of the Gwalia precinct, even if you only pause outside for the view.
