Boranup Forest

Boranup Forest is the green counterpoint to Margaret River's vineyards and surf: a stand of tall karri trees rising from pale limestone country south of town. The trunks are smooth, straight, and surprisingly luminous in late afternoon light, and the forest feels cooler and quieter than the surrounding farmland.

Drive slowly along Caves Road and Boranup Drive, stopping at pull-outs where walking tracks enter the trees. It is a simple pleasure rather than a formal attraction, but it is one of the landscapes that makes the region feel distinct from the rest of coastal Western Australia.
