When to Go

Spring and autumn are the most comfortable seasons: mild days, lower fire risk, and fewer crowds than the summer school holidays. Wildflowers brighten the coastal heath and forest in spring, while autumn suits cellar-door lunches and calmer touring.

Summer brings beach weather and packed accommodation, especially from Christmas into January. Winter is wet, green, and quiet; it is not ideal for beach days, but it can be excellent for caves, forests, and red wine by a fire.
