Things to Do

Penrhyn offers very little in the conventional sense, which is the whole point. The central lagoon is enormous and spectacularly clear, and spending time on or in the water is the main activity. The two inhabited settlements — Omoka and Tetautua — are small enough that a morning's walk covers everything.

Penrhyn weaving is the island's most distinctive cultural product. Intricate pandanus hats and baskets made here are considered among the finest in the Cook Islands, and watching or learning about the craft is worth the effort of arranging it through local contacts.
