Tavuni Hill Fort sits on a limestone ridge above the Sigatoka River, a few kilometres from town. Tourism Fiji links it to the 18th-century Tongan chief Maile Latumai, and the site includes grave areas, old defensive terraces, ceremonial ground, and wide views over the valley.
The value here is partly the view and partly the reminder that Fiji's pre-colonial history was not only coastal villages and chiefs' houses, but fortified landscapes and conflict too.
