Haapiti

Haapiti is the southwestern district of Moorea, the sleepiest and the most traditionally Polynesian-feeling part of the island. The famous Haapiti Beach — actually a long stretch of public sand between the resorts of Hauru Point and the Tiki Village — lies on this coast, with shallow water before the reef break that makes it one of the calmest swimming spots on the island. The village itself is small: a Catholic church with twin square towers, a school, a couple of stores, and a couple of guesthouses. The road south of Haapiti is one of the prettier driving stretches on the island, with the lagoon close on one side and pineapple country climbing the slopes on the other.
