Things to Do

Moorea is easy to explore: a single 60-kilometre coast road circles the island and the interior is wild enough to make any drive interesting. The biggest sights are the two great northern bays — Cook's and Opunohu — and the volcanic peaks rising between them. Above the bays sits the Belvedere lookout, the most-photographed viewpoint in French Polynesia. The reef-fringed lagoon is exceptional everywhere, and a half-day excursion by outrigger to Motu Fareone or one of the other offshore reef islets is the standard tourist outing — bring fins and reef-safe sunscreen.
