Mount Tohivea

Tohivea (sometimes Tohiea) is the highest peak on Moorea at 1,207 metres — the eroded core of the volcano that originally built the island. From below it is the broad-shouldered peak rising directly behind the head of Cook's Bay; from the Belvedere it sits across the valley to the south. There is no maintained summit trail, and the upper section involves loose volcanic rock and dense vegetation; in practice almost no one climbs it. The peak is best appreciated from below — from anywhere in the Opunohu Valley, from the head of either bay, or from the boat coming over from Tahiti, where its profile shapes the silhouette of the island.
