Village Graveyard

A small cemetery on the lagoon side of the main road, notable for how Polynesian and Catholic traditions have been combined. Graves are decorated with coral fragments, shells, and glass floats from fishing nets. Simple wooden crosses stand alongside elaborate raised tombs painted in pastels. Local family names repeat on the markers — a reminder of how small and self-contained this community has always been.

It's a peaceful spot to sit for a few minutes, and makes an interesting counterpoint to the underwater spectacles nearby.
