Chamorro Village

Open-air market and craft village by the harbour; vibrant Wednesday night market

Chamorro Village is a complex of low buildings around a central plaza on the edge of the harbour, set up as a permanent space for craftspeople, food vendors and local shops. During the day it is a slightly sleepy series of stalls selling weaving, woodwork, jewellery, kelaguen and barbecue. The whole place comes alive on Wednesday evening, when the Hagåtña Night Market opens — food stalls along the central pavilion, live music, fiesta dancing, and what is by some distance the largest weekly social gathering in the capital.

Even if your visit does not coincide with a Wednesday night, an hour wandering the village is worthwhile, especially if you want to bring home a small object — a hand-woven hat, a hot sauce, a piece of Chamorro art. Cash is appreciated by smaller stallholders.
