The only Spanish fort still standing in Hagåtña, built in 1800 on a hill overlooking the bay. It's a short but steep walk up from Plaza de España, and the view from the top — over the capital, the bay, and the reef — is the best panorama in town. The fort itself is modest but intact, and the climb worthwhile even if colonial fortifications aren't your thing.

A story
During the Japanese occupation, the fort served as a lookout post. American forces could see it from their ships as they approached in July 1944 — for the Chamorros watching from the hill, the sight of the fleet was the moment they knew liberation was coming.
