Cetti Bay Overlook

The Cetti Bay Overlook is a roadside viewpoint on Route 4 that gives one of the finest panoramas on Guam's southern coast. A short walk from the car park brings you to a concrete platform above the cliff edge, looking down over a broad sweep of bay ringed by forested hills dropping directly to the reef. The water in the bay cycles through startling shades of green and blue depending on depth and the angle of the sun.

The bay itself is not accessible as a beach — the terrain is steep and the currents are strong — but it does not need to be. The view is the attraction: the untouched coastline, the Philippine Sea horizon, and the sense of being in a part of Guam that has changed very little. On clear days the southern coast curves away toward Umatac Bay and the ruins of the old Spanish village.

A story
The Chamorro word "cetti" may refer to the frigatebirds that patrol this coastline — large, prehistoric-looking seabirds with forked tails and wingspans of over two metres that nest in the coastal scrub and ride the updrafts above the cliff. You will almost certainly see them circling the overlook.
