La Tontouta International Airport is about 50 kilometres north of Nouméa, connected to the city by airport shuttle (about 75 minutes) or taxi. Direct flights connect Nouméa with Sydney, Brisbane, Auckland, Tokyo, and Paris. The domestic Magenta Airport, closer to the city, serves smaller islands within New Caledonia.
No passenger ferries run to Nouméa from Australia or New Zealand; cruise ships call regularly from both directions but are not a practical way to arrive independently.
