The Goat Island Marine Discovery Centre is the dry-land companion to the reserve. Run by the University of Auckland, it explains the reef, research, and marine species that make Goat Island more than a pretty swimming spot.
It is especially useful with children or on days when the sea is too rough for good snorkelling. Visit before getting in the water if you want names for the fish you are about to see.
