Torpedo Bay Navy Museum

The Torpedo Bay Navy Museum is the official museum of the Royal New Zealand Navy, set in an attractive position on the waterfront east of the main wharf. The collection covers New Zealand's naval history from the colonial gunboat era through to modern operations, with a particular focus on the two World Wars and the RNZN's role in the Pacific.

Exhibits include ship models, weapons, uniforms, medals, and navigational equipment, as well as detailed accounts of specific campaigns and vessels. It is a well-presented museum, free to enter, and a good option if the weather is too rough for the walks up to the volcanic peaks. Allow an hour to ninety minutes.
