North Piha is the wilder-feeling stretch beyond Lion Rock. It has the same dark sand and heavy surf as the main beach, but the houses thin out and the line of cliffs feels more open.
Come here for walking, surf watching, and a little more room on busy summer days. The water is still serious, with rips and holes that are not obvious from shore, so treat it with the same caution as South Piha.
