Maidstone Park is Upper Hutt's main open green space, situated close to the city centre along the Hutt River. The park has extensive lawns, riverside walking paths, a skate park, and sports fields. In summer it's a popular spot for picnics and family outings, with the river bank offering easy access to the water.
The park connects to the wider Hutt River Trail, a gravel cycling and walking path that runs the length of the valley from Upper Hutt downstream to Lower Hutt. From Maidstone you can head south along the trail for easy, flat cycling through pastoral scenery, or north toward Kaitoke. The park also hosts various community events and markets through the year.
