The Greater Wellington region covers the southern tip of the North Island, from the Kapiti Coast in the north to the harbour and hills of Wellington city at the bottom. The region includes the Hutt Valley cities of Lower Hutt and Upper Hutt, Porirua to the north, and the Wairarapa on the eastern side of the Remutaka Range — a wine-growing region with a very different character from the urban western side.
