Wairere Boulders is Horeke's standout sight, a bush reserve where huge basalt blocks have been weathered into fluted, grooved shapes. Boardwalks, bridges, and steps lead through the valley, with short walks for a quick look and longer loops if you want to make an afternoon of it.
The rocks are the draw, but the setting matters too. The reserve sits in quiet Hokianga farmland, with forest, streams, and views that make the geology feel less like an exhibit and more like a landscape you can move through.
