Ahipara is a small beach village 5 kilometres west of Kaitaia and the southern end of Ninety Mile Beach. The main beach is long and wide with consistent surf — it has a loyal local surfing community and is considered one of Northland's best breaks. For less experienced swimmers, the gentler sections toward the village are safe for families. The surrounding landscape of Tāheke cliffs and sand dunes adds to the drama of the setting. There is a small store and a holiday park; beyond that, this is a quiet place.
