Point Kean is the easy-access seal and seabird stop at the end of the Kaikoura Peninsula road. At low tide the limestone platforms spread out below the cliffs, and fur seals often rest close to the car park and walking track.
It is tempting to edge closer for photos, but this is one place to be disciplined. Give seals a wide berth, especially if pups are nearby or if an animal is blocking the path.
