Meretoto / Ship Cove

A historic Marlborough Sounds cove where Captain Cook anchored, now the start of the Queen Charlotte Track.

Meretoto / Ship Cove is one of the key historic places in the Marlborough Sounds. Captain James Cook spent long periods here during his Pacific voyages, and a memorial marks the cove where his ships anchored.

The cove is also the northern start of the Queen Charlotte Track. Most visitors arrive by boat from Picton, either to begin the walk or to make a day trip into the quieter arms of the sounds.
