The Marlborough Sounds are the reason Picton matters — take a water taxi up Queen Charlotte Sound, walk a section of the Queen Charlotte Track, or join a dolphin-watching cruise. The Edwin Fox at the waterfront is well worth a wander even if you don't think you care about old ships. For a quick fix, the Snout Track from the eastern end of the bay climbs to a lookout in about an hour.
