The Callery River is the tributary that joins the Waiho just south of Franz Josef village. Its short gorge has carved a narrow slot through the rock — a striking feature on the road towards the glacier. A swing bridge crosses the gorge at a viewpoint a few minutes' walk from the car park, with the river thundering below.
The bridge is the start of several walking tracks, including the Roberts Point Track. Even without committing to a long hike, the bridge itself is worth the short walk for the gorge view and the rainforest immediately around it.
